I just wanted to share why it is so important to arm yourself with proper knowledge because you really will notice how you stand out from the other unfortunate souls (no disrespect intended).
I'm about to share with you a story of what happened today.
Today I had an interview with some "reputable" marketing company called 212 Inc. AKA 212 Marketing Solutions AKA Elite Marketing AKA....you see a pattern??
On the way there, I was made aware of the MANY 100s of negatives about it. I didn't know about it before because they contacted me first and decided to check it out like any job seeker would. Using THEIR review page setup to go to look at for reviews! Again I didn't notice...
Not good right?
Wrong, it just depends on your perspective yet some of the comments were so hilarious I decided to have some fun since, I was already close anyways.
There were comments about scamming people and others who were former employees had been *discarded*, etc. I had decided that I'll be the hero today.
I go inside and the receptionist had me fill out a form that looked like it was created from Notepad and Paint*.
[*Notepad and Paint are basic softwares from Windows. Paint is like a thorough watered-down Photoshop and Notepad is exactly like it sounds.]
I greeted everyone there then began to fill out this crap form with the crap questions.
About a few minutes pass and suits and ties were rolling up out of nowhere to collect these 8 folks, me included in the 8, to go for a walk to Dunkins.
This is Exactly what the people with the negative reviews mentioned. I just chuckled a little.
After about a few minutes, I was the last one and this lady called me in, sorry I won't disclose her name mostly due to the fact that I don't remember her name, sorry lady if you ever read this.
I had my handy notebook and before she said anything, I said I'm going to take some notes is that fine with you?
Yes? Cool.
She asked some questions-you know- the basic stupid questions they ask in every interview.
But skipping ahead now my questions was related to her questions and answers, so apparently it seems like I'm going door to door (I hate those jobs).
It's basically a cheap labor force of grunts to do the dirty work for said company.
So I also asked her what is the customer base, and she responds with 80% of them already have the service.
Now what about the 20% and basically what are we selling to the 80%?
She didn't have an answer. Just beating around the bush.
So before hitting her with my final Ultimate-of-all-Ultimate-sinker questions, I literally positioned myself like I was getting ready to be shot out of a cannon lol. Don't worry I DID let her finish what she was saying, I really did.
Then I hit her with it....
"In reference to your answer about what you said about the environment (obviously for them it's peaceful and loving full of bunnies and chocolate donuts), what are other people saying about your company?"
Boom....
This is Exactly what she did, she paused a second, looked at me in the eye and repeated what she was saying about 'we're high energy and other blah blah.
So trying to divert my question? Oh no I asked her again.
And then she had trouble saying what she was going to say because she didn't know what to say except for check a review site THEY want you to see called Glassdoor.
All she said after glass door, she got some confidence telling me 'yeah, go check Glassdoor'. (First off I've never heard of Glassdoor or your company before today).
I was like okay, jotted down some notes, with a close of my book and a thanks (always be courteous and friendly).
She stood up before I did and it was like she wanted me out the door quickly because I was well known of their game. Something I fell victim to a very long time ago.
I shook her hand, walked out (I went the wrong way at first so when I turned and went the right way I looked inside and out she came with this drained look on her face like 'did that just happen'?)
If they call me later for a second interview, I wouldn't even waste my time.
Poor fools who left before seeing my triumphant victory.
The point of this story is to teach something, and like many of us who want something more out of life, you had to take tough roads, but you learned never to go down those roads Ever again.
