We're constantly being hammered with the wisdom that we need good targeted traffic to a website if we want to succeed in the IM game.
Well, duh!
Then our "gurus" loudly and persuasively proclaim that they've "discovered" the perfect solution to our dilemma. Buy this "unique system" for $ 17.00, or $ 27.00, or $ 47.00 or, whatever; you get the idea, and untold riches will instantly be yours. And all that with just seven clicks of the mouse while you're sunning yourself on a Hawaiian beach. Anybody can do it. Why, our "guru" has even taught a chimpanzee to make a million!
Time for our definition of "guru." A guy who makes his living selling inoperative, worthless "discoveries, systems, programs, and methods" to desperate, gullible, and hopeful marketing wannabes who believe untold riches can be achieved with no work. These guys promise that you can make "$ 7,463.72 a day while sunning yourself on a Hawaiian beach. And all it will cost you to get in on this phenomenal "discovery" is a measly $17.00, or $27.00, or $47.00, or $97.00 (with upsells after purchase, of course).
Familiar?
It's interesting that you'll never catch any of these "gurus" utilizing their own products to make money for themselves. They're much too busy making money selling their garbage to us. Besides, they know full well that this junk doesn't work, and nobody makes money without working for it. Unless you inherit it. Even stealing it takes work.
Well, enough of this rant. There are ways of getting genuine, targeted traffic consisting of willing buyers, if you're willing to do the work required to get them.
BLOGGING CAN DO WONDERS
Many successful marketers are using online blogging successfully and reaping the benefits by directing massive amounts of traffic to their websites and programs. Just be sure, when you write a blog, to have the material directly related to the niche or subject encompassing your website. Straying from the predominant subject line of your niche is certain disaster. You'll lose readership and it will never return. So if your niche is in improving your golf swing, don't go posting stuff about model railroads.
Before you post anything on a blog, know what you're talking about. Research your subject from conflicting angles to uncover mistakes and possibly flawed thinking. And it's a real good idea to keep the blog open to comments. If you can open a lively pro and con dialogue, it will do wonders for your traffic.
By keeping your blog posts interesting and informative and getting them posted on directories as well as on your personal blog, you'll slowly begin to experience a steady increase in traffic. Be patient. It won't happen overnight. Be consistent. Keep posting regularly. If I were to give an opinion on the most important aspect of internet marketing, I would have to say that consistency prevails over all else. Repeat your themes, again and again, in different ways, and keep your thoughts, your schedules and timing, always consistent, so that your readers can gain confidence in you. Remember, when people have confidence in you, they'll buy from you.
