Take Care When Buying Web Services

At LeQuadrillage Research Group we are constantly engaged in looking at and evaluating the multitude of marketing and toolbox offers that threaten to bury us.

Some of them are ok, most aren't worth the time it takes to click them off and all of them have a single purpose.  To separate us from our money.

Even when they claim to be free.  They're all "free!"

So the question that always pops up, if you're one of those people who stops to think about it is, "what benefit will my purchase of this product produce?"

And now you need to be careful with the answer you derive.  These sales presentations and ads are so cleverly designed to strike at your needs and desires that it's hard to resist getting pulled along into the vortex of emotion and the prospect of untold riches.  We fervently want this to be the answer to our dreams.  So we buy into something very promising that invariably leaves us disappointed.

In this post, and in upcoming posts, I'm going to share with you some of the experiences our team has had when they've availed themselves of the offerings of some of the better, or less bad, tools and systems we've encountered.  Obviously we can't cover them all, they're cropping up at a rate that rivals the speed of light.  Here's the first one.

A CRITICAL REVIEW OF MAIL OUR LIST

Mail Our List is a credit based email delivery service. That is, you earn credits by reading the emails of other members, and you can then use those credits to mail to the member list.  The basic membership is free, although somewhat restricted and two levels of upgrades are available at $ !0.00 and $ 20.00  monthly.  Various benefits come along with the upgrades of course, including frequency of mailing, commissions paid to you if you affiliate,  templates, and so on. If you want, you can look at the whole thing here.

I joined under the free option.  Since I didn't have any credits, I bought 5000 for $ 10.00 (I could have purchased just 1000 for $ 2.50, but I wanted to give this a good trial).

So then I prepared a mailing and entered it. The process went smoothly and the email went on its way.  At my level, I was only permitted to mail to 1000 members.  I sat back to await the results.  The system has its own tracking system, which I coupled with my own and found that both tracking links agreed.  Out of a thousand emails, I received 542 hits. That is, more than half of the recipients read my email.

Well, of course!  They were getting credits for reading them.  More importantly, what was my conversion rate?  How many of those who read my email, actually purchased?

I had one conversion.  It paid for the credits I'd purchased.  And I still had 4000 credits to use  The conversion rate was less than 0.2%  I couldn't call that good, but this number runs pretty consistently through most affiliate programs, so I shrugged it off  At my free level, I could only mail every five days, so five days later, I did another mailing.  Pretty much the same result.  This time I got 2 conversions, and the other three mailings ran true to form.  All in all, not good, but considering that I was using someone else's list, better than a number of others I had tried.  Maybe I could be persuaded to give it a C-.

It's hard to justify spending my own time on this, but for someone just starting out, I guess it's a fairly good way of getting into the rythm of the internet marketing business and generating some small increments of revenue which can then be scaled up from there.

I couldn't in good faith recommend that you bother with this, but I would not try to talk you out of it either.  Better - go look at it yourself. It's not likely that you'll get hurt.  It all depends on how you value your time.
