What is a Traffic Exchange?

What is a Traffic Exchange?

In essence a traffic exchange (TE) is a website that is dedicated as an advertising platform.

Advertisers can place their banner ads and/or text ads on the website and visitors are paid to view the advertiser's offerings.

Viewers, commonly referred to as surfers, are usually paid in credits which can be used to advertise on the site or can be cashed out.

Using Traffic Exchanges as an Advertiser

There are usually two ways to advertise with traffic exchanges:

  1. Unpaid and
  2. Paid.

As an unpaid (free) member of a TE you can build up advertising credits by surfing the exchange.

Surfing involves checking out other people's adverts at the exchange.

As a free member you will typically earn 1 credit for every 3 advertisements that you view.

So, if you surf through 300 ads you would earn 100 credits.

These credits can then be used to purchase views of your own advertisements.

This is a great way to get started promoting your business if you don't have a budget for marketing.

As a paid member you can usually earn 1 credit per view. So if you surfed through 300 ads, as in the previous example, you would earn 300 credits rather than just 100.

Also, as a paid member, you can start to refer others to the exchange and earn commissions on their activity.

Exchanges will typically pay 50% commissions on your referrals. So if you refer just 2 new members then your membership fee would pay for itself.

As you build a downline at the exchange you can earn a substantial extra income from these commissions.

This is a great way to build up your marketing budget. Alternatively you could choose to take the extra income as profit to spend as you wish.

Spending Your Credits on Advertising

You can use your credits to purchase views of your website/squeeze page, banner ads or text ads.

A direct viewing of your website or squeeze page will typically cost you 1 credit.

You will typically receive 25 banner or text ad impressions for 1 credit.

200 credits or 5,000 impressions will typically cost approximately $1.00.

So, as you can see, traffic exchanges are a great way to start promoting your business if you are on a shoestring budget.

Plus you have the added bonus of being able to build a substantial downline as an extra source of income.

All-in-all I view traffic exchanges as a win-win opportunity for everyone.

TEs are a triple whammy for the internet marketer. You get to promote your business, build your downline and create an extra income source.
