I was speaking to a 62 year old man today about life insurance to cover his final expenses and the issue of his diabetes came up. He just wants to make sure that his family is not stuck with the bill when he passes and is having trouble finding adequate coverage.
I have several people in my family who suffer from diabetes. I know from a personal and professional stand point how difficult it is for diabetics to get adequate life insurance especially when they're insulin dependent.
If it wasn't bad enough that diabetes can lead to a host of complications like loss of vision, amputations, heart trouble, stroke, nerve damage, kidney failure, and much more; a diabetic also has the added frustration of finding life insurance coverage in the marketplace, especially if they have some of the complications I've just listed.
Most of the insurance advertised on TV and by direct mail is term life insurance that expires and the ever increasing rates they offer diabetics are not affordable and usually come with long waiting periods.
There are companies out there that provide day one immediate coverage for diabetics(with no waiting periods if they qualify), even those that are insulin dependent; but, you have to know where to look and what questions to ask.
