There was a little piece of software lying in my “ToDo” folder for a long time, waiting for me to try it out. It was called “Email Followup.exe,” which I presumed had something to do with producing emails to put in an autoresponder.

I had an hour to kill over the weekend, so I decided to see what was in the program. When I started the program, I was disappointed because it asked a whole lot of questions. I thought it would be easy to fill in the answers for a service I promote, but found I had to think quite hard about some of the questions, and collect information from the web pages....

Yes you can have your own autoresponder, installed in your own hosted site.  You will have complete control over the autoresponder and you will not have any monthly fees to pay.

I have done that even though I am not technically qualified.  True, I had to learn about things like CGI, PHP, scripts, permissions and cronjobs to get the autoresponders to work. 

You can buy autoresponders scripts for relatively modest fees, and I know of at least one you can get free.  ...
