Marketing With Traffic Exchanges

The question I often get is, "John is it a waste of time to promote on traffic exchanges."  The answer to this question depends on who you talk to.  I will discuss the pros and cons of traffic exchange marketing and finalize with my opinion.  I'm sure some will disagree with this opinion.

The primary purpose for using this method of promotion is to focus on clicking on the sites of other members so as to build credits for promoting your site.  The more credits you earn the more you can display your site to others.

The Pros:

*  They are free to join
*  You can promote multiple sites
*  You can earn bonus credits for surfing
*  A free member can purchase credits to reduce the need of surfing
*  Free members can purchase login pages at reasonable fees

The Cons:

*  The vast majority of surfers are only interested in earning credits.
*  Many surfers pay no attention to the sites while surfing.
*  The click through rate is very low
*  Surfers can set up multiple sites in tabs and click, click, click.
*  Surfing multiple sites means less attention given to your site.

So what is my opinion:

I would never tell others to market or not to market by using traffic
exchanges.  That decision will rest with the marketer.  If you're
finances are such that this is the only method you can use, then
go for it.  You will probably receive some referrals to your program
or service you are providing, but there are other marketing
platforms that are more effective.

If you are presently a member of traffic exchanges or you are
considering this method of promotion, make sure you are using
splash pages instead of a long program page.

Your splash page should be branded  and stands out from
the splash pages being displayed by others promoting the
same program, opportunity, or product.
