Ralph McTell was born Ralph May, 3 December 1944.

As an English singer-songwriter and acoustic guitar player
he has had a major impact  on the UK folk music scene since the 1960s.

Over 200 artists have covered this great song and in the 1980s
he also wrote and played songs for  TV children's programmes.

McTell's guitar playing has been modelled on the style
of the US's country blues guitar players of the early 20th century.

After changing his name to McTell his career was beginning to take shape.

Also an accomplished performer on piano and harmonica.
