While it is true there is dishonesty in business sometimes, the fact that people are more or less anonymous on the Internet, or at least not 'face-to-face', has opened up a whole new frontier for less than honest schemes. So the purpose of this is not to say we don't need somebody to 'watch out for us' and to reveal anything that might protect us, but they that they should also be honest.

However, the very MLM watch sites that claim to know what is and is not a 'scam' are also suspect in that regard. First of all, it is likely their opinion or bias in the matter that will be emphasized, and not necessarily hard facts. They can take circumstantial 'evidence' and carry it to the extreme, claiming it is a fact. They can also extrapolate using their bias, when for example they may take the fact that the company is not in the USA, and reason that this is by design because they are avoiding the FTC (Federal Trade Commission). How do they know instinctively what someone else is thinking? Couldn't it be that they just prefer to live and work in the country of their choice? Or perhaps where there are better tax benefits for business? Apparently not, because then there would be no scam for them to write about.

It has been noted that some of the most famous MLM watch sites that claim to be 'scam watchers' have in the past accepted money to remove negative reports and that has been brought to light. How honest is that? So you may read that an innocent MLM company is a scam because they did not pay and at the same time not see the truth about a company that can pay.

The sleeziest example of a scam review site is one that creates an elaborate report on a company, outlining all of the various areas that the company is supposedly doing this or that illegal activity. They build our trust and when we are feeling safe, by the way, they have just the program that does not do any of the evil things that the so-called scammers are doing. This is a strategy that is very obvious, yet surely not everyone will realize it. What a perfect way to make your MLM company look great when put up beside a company that is suspected of wrong doing, whether true or not.

Because of various unscrupulous companies, MLM (multi-level marketing) has a very bad reputation. Yet the truth is most sales-based organizations are just that - MLM marketing companies. Whatever in the world leads someone to believe that just because someone earns commissions from referrals that they worked hard to get, that they shouldn't be paid for it? Or these paragons of virtue who say that there is no product. Why don't they understand that a service is a product that has monetary value? Why do they believe that companies should spend the time and money to train people for free? Many do, in that they want to show people how best to succeed with their program. What is wrong with that?

What are actually scams are things like hidden costs, where you can't function unless you upgrade,but they failed to mention that until after you have paid; where they have not disclosed true income statistics, and in fact they are not successful; where they do not deliver what you have paid for and will not respond or refund your money. On the other hand we need to realize that if they do deliver and do have a 'no-refund' policy or a 'time sensitive refund' (30 days or whatever) that they have a perfect right not to refund, as long as they made it clear in the beginning. It does not make them a scam.

It is assumed we are all adults who are serious about starting a business online and about our financial health. Therefore we do need the real facts and we really need to pay attention to things like disclaimers and terms of service. True it is the 'small print', but none-the-less, we need to read it and accept responsibility for our own decisions.
