While it is true there is dishonesty in business sometimes, the fact that people are more or less anonymous on the Internet, or at least not 'face-to-face', has opened up a whole new frontier for less than honest schemes. So the purpose of this is not to say we don't need somebody to 'watch out for us' and to reveal anything that might protect us, but they that they should also be honest.
It has been noted that some of the most famous MLM watch sites that claim to be 'scam watchers' have in the past accepted money to remove negative reports and that has been brought to light. How honest is that? So you may read that an innocent MLM company is a scam because they did not pay and at the same time not see the truth about a company that can pay.
The sleeziest example of a scam review site is one that creates an elaborate report on a company, outlining all of the various areas that the company is supposedly doing this or that illegal activity. They build our trust and when we are feeling safe, by the way, they have just the program that does not do any of the evil things that the so-called scammers are doing. This is a strategy that is very obvious, yet surely not everyone will realize it. What a perfect way to make your MLM company look great when put up beside a company that is suspected of wrong doing, whether true or not.
What are actually scams are things like hidden costs, where you can't function unless you upgrade, but they failed to mention that until after you have paid; where they have not disclosed true income statistics, and in fact they are not successful; where they do not deliver what you have paid for and will not respond or refund your money. On the other hand we need to realize that if they do deliver and do have a 'no-refund' policy or a 'time sensitive refund' (30 days or whatever) that they have a perfect right not to refund, as long as they made it clear in the beginning. It does not make them a scam.
It is assumed we are all adults who are serious about starting a business online and about our financial health. Therefore we do need the real facts and we really need to pay attention to things like disclaimers and terms of service. True it is the 'small print', but none-the-less, we need to read it and accept responsibility for our own decisions.
