When I was a kid I used to hear Paul Harvey in his, Rest of the Story. It always fascinated me. For those of you younger folks or those who are too sophisticated for Harvey's home spun delivery let me give you a bit of background.
Harvey would tell a story to us, often it was a story that with which were familiar...then he would tell us something we did not know as a wrap up. I would walk away thinking, "cool."
In Sunday School Class our Manthano Group (to learn) started a study of the book of Philippians. Although our teacher took us to the background passage of how that church located in the Greek city of Philippi got started.
The Teacher talked about three people that the Apostle Paul along with his partners Luke and Silas came into contact with.
The first was a business woman named Lydia. She seems to have been both successful and generous to others. The second was a slave girl. Lastly, a prison guard in the jail where Paul and the gang landed.
Before I get to my main point about the power of incomplete knowledge it is interesting that such a diverse group of individuals made up the core group of followers of Jesus Christ in this powerful city.
This is a great lesson on diversity. Diversity strengthens groups not weakens them. This is a message that Paul talks about in his letter to the Corinthians. In it he compared the church--"the gathering"--to a body. We aren't all eyes or feet, are we?...Powerful Stuff
So what is this power of incomplete knowledge of which I spoke earlier? When he met Lydia down at the river Paul spoke to her of the Gospel. Lydia was a follower of Judaism and she immediately saw the connection between the promised Messiah and the message of Jesus.
You see Lydia, Cornelius and Apollos and Aquilla and Pricilla had a belief...a well founded belief, but did not have the whole story. The rest of the story is that all those who I mentioned became powerful leaders in the first century for their faith.
So who around you might have incomplete knowledge and you can hook them up with that missing piece of content?
What incomplete knowledge might you have that could turn your life around?
Today, go out and be open to the possibilities
