Alkaline Diet - What You Need To Know
Our diets have changed dramatically in the last 50-60 years. More and more people are suffering from obesity and chronic diseases such as diabetes ,heart disease, high blood pressure, to name a few. We are consuming processed foods, eating at fast food outlets and not consuming enough fruits and vegetables in our diets.
Many of the diseases we suffer from can be linked directly to the food we are eating. If we changed our eating habits, many of these diseases could be prevented.
Why Alkaline Is Important To Our Health
We need a healthy alkaline to acid ratio, which is indicated by our pH levels. Anything lower than 7 on the pH scale is considered acidic. Sweets, meats, refined foods and some beverages can produce excessive acidity in your body.
Abnormally high acidity levels is called acidosis and it is one thing many diseases have in common.
Alkaline occurs naturally to neutralize excess acid, but the levels can become too low if there is too much acid in our body or we don't consume the proper foods.
You can purchase easy-to-use pH level strips in drug stores or medical supplies stores to determine if your levels are alkaline. There are strips for testing
using your saliva or strips using your urine. These strips will tell you the amount of acid your body is producing. A saliva pH level strip will normally
show between 6.5 and 7.5 A urine pH level strip should show between 6.0 and 6.5 in the morming and between 6.5 and 7.0 at night.
Health Problems and High Acidity
You may have high acid levels if you are constantly experiencing headaches, frequent colds, exhaustion, but dangerous levels of acid have been linked to
acne, obesity, depression, ulcer, to name a few. It has also been linked to osteoporosis, joint diseases, bronchitis, frequent infections and heart disease.
Even with medication, acidosis will continue to have ill-effects on your health because you aren't getting to the root of the problem, and the medications will only make your body more acidic.
Alkaline Diet
The body's pH level has to be brought back to normal. Eating alkaline foods will help replenish the alkaline levels and rid the body of excess acidity.
By eating an alkaline diet, the pH levels will be brought back to normal.
Start by eating less processed foods. Avoid meat and meat products, dairy products and alcohol. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. 75% of daily foods consumed should be alkaline.
