How to Eliminate Gout Pain by Eating the Right Foods

Gout is caused by high levels of uric acid in the blood. In fact, uric acid is a waste product caused by the breakdown of purines which are naturally found in your body. As the uric acid builds in the blood, certain parts of your body may begin to experience pain. The pain caused by gout is a result of crystal-like formations that travel with the blood stream and end up depositing themselves in the spaces between the joints. It is these jagged crystals that are the actual cause of the swelling, redness and pain that gout is known for. Thanks to advances in food technology and food science, fighting the causes of gout are much easier today than in the past. In fact, one of the simplest ways of avoiding gout flare ups is to implement dietary changes to your daily diet. Foods You Should Avoid High purines foods should avoided since purines contribute to the gout. Examples of high purines food include peas, beans, liver, brain, herring, scallops, muscles, mackerel, anchovies and herring. In addition, to avoiding the foods listed above, I have included some dietary recommendations to lower the risk of gout naturally: 1. Avoiding alcohol or only drink in moderation. Drinking a large amounts of alcohol increases the risk of hyperuricemia, as the alcohol may hamper the natural removal of uric acids from the body. 2. Drink plenty of fluids to flush the system of uric acids. Try to consumer 6-8 glasses of water a day. A simple way to ensure you drink your daily water amount is to carry a sport bottle with you while at home or work. 3. Maintain a healthy weight. Excess weight places more stress on both your body system and your joints. The more stress that is placed on your joints the great the possibility you may experience a flare up. 4. Eat uric acid reducing foods. For example, tart cherries help to reduce uric acid in the body and dissolve the jagged crystals that form in the joints. However, due to the seasonality of fresh tart cherries, you may want to consider tart cherry juice concentrate and tart cherry capsules. Traverse Bay Farms is an excellent source of fresh tart cherries, cherry juice concentrate, tart cherry capsules and even tart cherry salsa. List You Should Incorporate Into Your Diet. Food that are low in purines can help to control gout flare ups. Listed below are some foods low in purines for each meal of the day. 1. Breakfast Cereals, coffee, oatmeal, tea, eggs, juices, milk fruits, cheese (low fat) and peanut butter. 2. Lunch Pasta, cream style soups, gelatin, soda and broths 3. Dinner Macaroni, eggs, vegetables, breads, cereals, low-fat cheeses and soups. In addition to low purines foods, you can also incorporate medium purines level foods in moderation to round out your daily diet. These include beef, pork, lamb, mushrooms, asparagus, wheat germ, cauliflower and spinach. The key to eliminating gout is enjoying food in moderation. Even foods that are high in purines can be enjoyed occasionally and in moderation. Of, if you have gout or are having gout attack you should avoid food high in purines and eat low purines and foods that fight gout including tart cherries, tart cherry juice concentrate and tart cherry capsules.
