Hypnosis For Weight Loss - A Total Lie?
The effectiveness of hypnosis for weight loss has been riddled
with debates over the recent years. As we live in times where obesity
and strong potential for weight problems beset us, the use of such
alternate method to weight loss is gaining good ground. At the same
time, there are issues and concern of using hypnosis that seem to rise
as well. For some experts on health and weight loss, they confirm that
hypnosis does facilitate weight loss among patients.
They back it up
with the 1986 research conducted by scientists which show how hypnosis
is 30% more effective in increasing the chances of weight loss.
Meanwhile, naysayers, non-believers and fitness competitors are also
claiming that the efficacy of this method is only hype and the results
dont really show that hypnosis was the main reason for the patients
weight loss. The skepticism grows among people who have tried this
method as some did shed off the extra, unwanted pounds while some
remained or even gained their weight.
For people who wanted to take
their chance in this relatively new method, it can be encouraging and
quite disheartening at the same time.
So how does hypnosis for weight loss work?
The method employs hypnotherapy wherein the therapist takes the patient
into a subconscious state. According to the concept of hypnosis, a
person in this state becomes more responsive to the ideas which are
suggested to them, thus the therapist will encourage the patient to lose
weight through different techniques. One of the most well-known
techniques that they will use is reinforced suggestion. Here, the
therapist will suggest traditional and new methods of how the patient
can lose weight. He will then back it up with encouraging words that
will motivate the patient.
For example, if the therapist suggests that
the patient should try a certain food group, he will then continue to
say how this food group is beneficial to his health and how it is
actually a delectable diet.
The aversion method is another way that therapists utilize, albeit this
is the opposite of the reinforced suggestion. In this technique, the
therapist will try to control the patients tendency to crave for
unhealthy foods by associating to rather revolting sensations or taste.
In this way, the patient will always remember these images and avoids
giving in to his cravings. These methods have been employed by a lot of
therapists who claim that these show effective results.
For some therapists, the method can also go into a more subtle way.
While the first two methods go directly to feed the ideas into their
patients subconscious, one technique is to go beyond and try to solve
the problem. Overeating and bingeing are the main causes of rapid weight
gain and hunger isnt really the reason for it. People tend to binge
when they are stressed or when they are in the state of emotional
turmoil, and this is what the therapists will try to work first.
By
eliminating or reducing the root cause of the persons coping
mechanisms, he will help him manage his bad eating habits.
So why do some say that hypnosis for weight loss is a total lie? This
may be due to the fact that on its own, hypnosis will never make a
person lose weight in a fast manner. The method serves only as a tool to
motivate and encourage a person to follow a more strict exercise
regimen and an effective diet plan. Hypnosis for weight loss will only
start to work once the person takes the suggestions and efficiently uses
them in his journey to lose weight.
