The Concept of MLM and Network Marketing
Network marketing is simply people who have access to a product or service who then utilize a network through which they trade and distribute that product or service. Online network marking extends this concept to selling and distributing via the web.
People in the network can buy the products or services for their personal use or to sell to others.Over time, more and more people join the network, increasing its size and volume. Some of the profits obtained from selling the products or services are paid to the people who work as the links in the network in a hierarchical way. This way, the network is expanded.
In time, the network provides regular income to its team of people using and selling the product or service.Initially, the concept of network marketing depended on training and word of mouth.
A group of leaders would spread the ideas and recruit team members to work under them. Then those team members became the second group of leaders who brought more people in the network. Early network marketing companies often lacked long-term strategies, ethics, and professionalism. Consequently, they received criticism from all quarters. Some were even thinly disguised 'pyramid schemes,' illegal in most developed economies.Today, however, the industry enjoys higher standards and more respectability. Many multinationals and Fortune 500 companies now give network marketing its due.
On the whole, it's a credible and viable business model comprising millions of people. The industry offers an array of products and services including almost every consumer durable product, cosmetics, cleaning products, training materials, clothes, cars, tour and travel packages, and health supplements. The list goes on.People also refer to network marketing as "direct marketing," and "multi-level marketing" (or just "MLM"), or even a "micro-franchise." In a typical MLM or network marketing company, individuals associate with the company as an independent contractor or franchisee, compensated for their sales of products or service as well as the sales by the other people they bring into the business. This is similar to the franchise concept wherein a franchisor or the area manager receives royalties from sales of franchises in an area.
A legitimate MLM pays commissions only on the sale of its products or services. Companies that pay for recruiting team members�perhaps in the form of a "sign-up fee"�are often illegal pyramid or Ponzi schemes.To succeed in MLM and Network Marketing without the painful trial and error, it is advisable to take an MLM Coach alongside.
