PERSPECTIVE: Such a interesting word, one defined in the dictionary in theoretical terms but one with very specific meaning to those of us living in the real world.

As someone dedicated to succeeding from home I definePERSPECTIVE as, "What you believe the future holds for you."

Well, that's pretty general, isn't it? But think about it, everything you do from home either comes from your PERSPECTIVE orCONTRIBUTES TO YOUR PERSPECTIVE. And I believe there are really only two possibilities with your perspective, positive or negative.

Here are two recent examples:

"Tom, I'm glad you found this program I finally feel I have something I can do."

This person sees herself succeeding, her PERSPECTIVE is optimistic.

"Tom, look at this email, this is all I get." (The email was a nasty response to his followup email.).

This person does not see any value in marketing.

BOTH ARE RIGHT!

You see, I believe your PERSPECTIVE determines how you approach your workday and the expectations you have.

I generally get positive emails from the same people and negative ones from the same people, over and over again.

And my feeling is the NEGATIVE PERSPECTIVE has more power!

There are lots of negatives in home business: people don't buy, people don't buy from you, people join and then cancel, people blame you for their failures, your marketing gets no response, etc.

Positives generally follow two paths: 1. Money in your pocket. 2. Nice words from a prospect/customer.

Some of you have MIXED PERSPECTIVES: "I think I can do this but I failed so often in the past."

SO HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN A POSITIVE PERSPECTIVE?

You, first of all, recognize that those who say rude, nasty things to you are just trying to push their failures off on you.

The truth is you DO NOT cause someone else's failure; you DO NOT cause someone else's bank to charge an overdraft fee; you ;DO NOT cause someone else to lose his/her job, and you ARE NOT responsible when someone else fails.

I do get very positive emails, too, but MOST PEOPLE WRITE OR CALL WHEN THEY ARE NOT HAPPY.

We don't call the phone company to tell them what a nice job they do.

We don't call City Hall to tell them we are happy the water is running.

The point is this: PEOPLE REACT ACCORDING TO THEIR PERSPECTIVE BUT THEIR PERSPECTIVE WAS DEVELOPED BY THEM, NOT BY YOU. NEVER TAKE IT PERSONALLY.

From your PERSPECTIVE if you treat people honestly and fairly you have done your job!

Working from home isn't always easy or safe but it ultimately rewarding as long as you keep your PERSPECTIVE optimistic.
