The chosen ones!
Probably most of the people on this email list grew up during WWII.
It was not easy during the war. Serving the war effort was expensive, food was not nutritious and was rationed, clothing was simple and plain and the spending ability was very limited because most of the men were at war and mothers were working and also raising children. Hardly anyone owned an automobile. If you did own one then getting gas was a problem. It to was rationed. War was foremost in everyone's mind.
Then the war was over. A war weary country was settleing back to normal. I was a small child at the time when I learned about the Korean war. Even at that young age I thought "Oh, not another war.....why? We just got out of one!"
Enter the "50's"
It was a time of peace, of hot dogs and burgers. Of music still, revered to this day. Bobby Soxers and being cool. Girls dressed modestly and were very attractive. Even today I believe a bobby soxer would win a fashion contest over a half dressed fluzie.
Yes I have to mention Lucky Strike cigarettes also. Today taboo ...then very cool. It was a time of high school dances, dances in the park, roller rinks, ice skating and of course Coney Island. Streets were safe, homes were safe and you could leave your house unlocked and the car keys in the ignition. Church on Sunday morning and Sunday activities in the afternoon. God was a big part of our daily life. TV was just getting started. TV technology and programming was getting better and better.
Sunday afternoon rides were fun but now being on the highway is warfare. Not fun anymore.
Most males were looking forward to the draft or enlisting in the service of their choice. Chivalry still existed although it has been since voted out. Basic training made a good man out of a lot of would be punks. Was college going to come before or after military service?
Jobs were abundant and the newspaper was filled with "want" ads.
We never heard of evil people, TV was clean as was radio and the meda were real journalist, not scripted look alikes.
Today padlocks have to be put on your wallets and purses. Your house has to have an alarm system as well as a dog and damn good locks. Most Vehicles have alarms on them. We see and hear evil persons on the news and some of them are the news persons themselves. TV is crude someone is always sticking their half dressed or undressed body in your face. Programs are downright filthy. Like "Two men and a boy" or the one where 2 waitresses are selling cupcakes. Both programs where they are always thinking about their crotches.
Police Protection is not what it used to be. Standards had to be lowered for minority groups and it shows.
Business is not customer oriented. It is how much they can lie to you and steal from you. In fact it seems the general population is all about lying and stealing. Not all the population but the newer population coming up behind us.
We are hearing more about all the evil people in this world and it evident that it is true. Communication improvement has not brought them out of the woodwork! They are new and increasing. Probably a lot of it is from children being educated TV violence and chat rooms. Maybe we are nearing the end. who knows!
But one thing is true. It is not a nice world to live in.
Personally I think that only God can repair it. We got men marrying men and women marrying women. I heard where some idiot wanted to marry their dog. I think the Almighty must be at His wits end. Something is bound to happen.
