We went to dinner

Last evening, we were invited to the annual fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity.

Let me start from the beginning.

We have lived in our rented house for 16 years.  Our landlord wanted to get out from under the house and the repairs and upkeep, etc.  He was going to sell it to us.  Instead, he decided to donate it to Habitat for Humanity.  We were then able to purchase our house from them.  So, we went from renters to homeowners without the hassle of packing up and moving.  Do you have any idea how much junk you accumulate in 16 years???  LOTS!

Anyway, we were invited to the dinner.  Turns out we were kind of the special guests.  We were introduced, and we talked about our house and how we became a Habitat Partner Family.  Ours was the first non-build for our area.  Usually, people help build their own houses, but ours was already built.  We just painted, got new carpet, new kitchen appliances, new kitchen flooring, and some sprucing up.  We even had a picture of our house in their brochure.  Ours is called "Brush with Kindness", instead of a "build".

We were not told that we were going to be acknowledged, nor did we have to pay for the delicious meal we were privileged  to take part of.  What a surprise.  We will be always grateful to Habitat for Humanity for their help in us being able to purchase our home.  We volunteer our time to help others as well.  Of course, we haven't been able to do that since Luke had his hip replacement, but now that he's healing pretty well, we'll get back into the swing of helping.  It is a really good feeling to help someone in need.

If you get a chance, find a Habitat for Humanity ReStore.  Things are donated and sold at reduced cost for people who cannot afford to buy them otherwise.  Part of the money earned goes to helping build homes in other countries.  What a wonderful organization.  We are proud to be a Partner Family.

Carol
