Are your readers finding it easy and pleasant to read your blog? Is your blog user friendly? How about the usability of your blog - does it lead to a better reader experience? It better be traffic without engagement is worthless.

Popular Posts.

Have some way of indicating your best articles - a category or a page with a list and links. Also include internal links from newer posts to  your most popular articles.

About Me Page.

It's all about trust. Readers want to know more about you and your credentials. Even your connections, in the sense of links to your social profiles, are important.

Author Photo.

This further enhances your credibility  Readers will relate better to someone they've seen. It also helps in branding yourself.

Concise, Clear and Scannable.

Headlines should clearly indicate the gist of the blog post and must never be vague. Content should always add value and be scannable. If readers can't scan it, they will leave.

Anonymous Links.

Tell people where the link will take them, not just "More here".

Advertisements.

People don't like them and will try to ignore them or leave your blog. Less is definitely better.

Consistency.

The looks and layout of your blog posts should be well organized and consistent. Use the same colors, fonts and sizes in every post.

Posting Frequency.

Readers would like to know when and how often you post new content or updates. Stay with your chosen schedule.

Theme.

You will get better usability with a narrower, focused theme for your blog. Covering five completely different themes will not help to get a loyal audience.

Clutter.

Blogs cluttered by buttons, widgets and badges are confusing, and hard to read and navigate.

Colors.

Avoid a chaotic mix of colors. What's eye candy to one is eye strain to another. Background and text should form a readable combination. Use eye-friendly colors.

Animations.

Better not. They may look great to a toddler but will be a distraction to readers.

Google Golden Triangle.

Content and items you want to be seen should be on the left. Eye tracking studies indicate that online readers scan top and left - in an 'F' or 'upside down triangle' pattern. Web readers spend most of their time on the left side of a page.

White space.

There should be lots of white space to be user friendly. Readers are intimidated by an unbroken block of text.

Contact Page.

When people try to contact you, make it easy for them to send an email.

New Browser Windows And Tabs.

What do you prefer when you click a link in a blog post? To be taken to a new tab or not, to be taken to a new window or not? Tell me what you prefer.

Because you want visitors to have a great user experience, usability becomes more important than most bloggers think.

Life should be fun - enjoy it!
