Why join another social network like Google Plus? Because it's run by Google, the biggest search engine and portal to your business - and Google is just too big to ignore. According to Google, Google+ is more than a social network - it's a social layer or underpinning for many of the Google services. Larry Page reputedly said: "If you ignore Google+, Google search will ignore you."
Set up your profile.
On Google Plus, a person has a profile and a business has a Google+ Page. You will need a Google account to set up your profile. Upload a clear headshot of you and a large cover image. Then complete your profile.
Link your website or blog to your profile and ad some Google+ badges to your blog.
Circles.
Circles - another great benefit from Google+. Create circles for all the different groups of people you plan to engage with. Circles enable you to send updates to or share with all circles, only one or with different circles.
Engage.
Engage with other people. Share, +1 and comment about the content you find interesting or relate to. Before posting content on Google+, answer this question first: does it ad value, entertain or help? Don't make the mistake of posting links without some comment two to three sentences at least.
Check out interesting communities and start reading and commenting. Do not start posting your own content.
Use hangouts, it is a free video chat service to chat one-on-one or in groups.
Reach Out.
Google Authorship enables your picture to show up in the Google search results. Content you publish on your blog is linked to your Google+ profile.
Use hashtags in your posts - it helps people find related content, which give added exposure. Use hashtags in the text of your posts, e.g. #UnderwaterDancing tips.
Warnings.
Don't sell, sell, sell. Try to ad value. Don't beg people to share your content and circle you. Don't start by checking '+mentioning' and 'notify by email'.
Useful Tools.
Use these tools to enhance your Google Plus experience. circlecount.com for engagement stats. circloscope.com to uncircle those who neglect to circle you back.
Life should be fun - enjoy it!
