Only around 2 out of 10 people will read further than your headline. The good news: at least 80% will read the headline. 'Read' is the important word here.
After they're done with the headline, most of the remaining few will not read they will scan. If the content is not scannable, they will leave.
Headline.
This is the hook everything else depends on this. A good title will at least give your content a fighting chance to avoid obscurity.
Length.
Keep your blog post short, clear and concise. No rambling about irrelevant stuff. Around 500 words should be fine, but there are indications that longer articles are doing very well.
Images.
Pictures break up the monotony of a block of text and may draw the reader in to scan the rest.
Formatting.
Make it easier for the reader by emphasizing important points. Use highlight, bold or quotation marks.
Conclusion.
Not at the end. It's better to start with the conclusion. Readers will discover early on if you know your stuff.
Paragraphs.
Yes, they are necessary lots of them. Keep them between 2 5 sentences. Readers don't want to be confronted with a solid block of text, it's not scannable.
Bullet Points.
This also breaks up the text and makes it very easy to scan. Keep bullet points short and uniform.
Numbered Lists.
A great way to make your content easy to scan and understand.
Links.
Internal and external links also helps to break the monotony of blocks of text.
Sentences.
Keep sentences short it will be a lot easier to scan and understand.
Subheadings.
They divide the text into sections and indicate what the passage below it is about. Scanners love it.
White Space.
Interesting content has lots of white space to make it easy for readers to scan.
Happy blogging and scanning.
Life should be fun - enjoy it!
