Social media statistics are not only interesting, they can be useful too. Take these stats into account in your online marketing campaigns.

1. Who hangs out at Pinterest? Women are four times more likely to use Pinterest than men.

2. Facebook is getting older. 45% of Internet users that are older than 65 use Facebook. Just over 70% of online adults use Facebook.

3. Pinterest also attracts older people. 23% of 50+ people using the internet are on Pinterest.

4. Twitter and Instagram are still mainly dominated by the younger adults.

5. Are people using multiple networks?  More than 50% of internet users either don't use any social network or just use Facebook. From another perspective, just over 40% of online adults use multiple social networking sites.

6.Around 60% of Facebook and Instagram users sign in every day, making them more engaged. Furthermore, 40% of Facebook users log on multiple times a day.

7. Another platform with high engagement - 46% of Twitter users sign in daily.

8. Nearly all social networkers use Facebook. More than 80% of the people using the other networks, also make use of Facebook.

9. Pinterest and LinkedIn users are the wealthiest. A higher percentage of them have an income above a certain level.

10. YouTube reaches more young adults in the US than any cable network

11. 71% of US adults use Facebook.

12. 40% of people spend more time socializing on social media networks than they do offline.

13. More than 70% of Facebook users are connecting with mobile devices.

14. 30% of the people in the US get their news on Facebook.

15. Google+ has 67% male users.

16. A third of consumers indicate that they discover new products and brands via social networking sites.

17. Facebook posts with less than 250 characters get 60% more engagement.

18. Shorter is also better at Twitter. Tweets shorter than 100 characters get better
engagement, except when a link is included. Then 120 � 130 characters seem to be better.

19. Tweets with 1 to 2 hashtags get a 20% higher engagement.

20. Tweets with more than 3 hashtags get less engagement.

21. 51% of people who log on to sites using a social network ID, prefer Facebook, while 28% prefer Google+.
