5 Common Online Marketing Mistakes

Online marketing is very challenging and competitive. Many new online entrepreneurs join a good program with the false notion that all they have to do is post a generic affiliate link somewhere one time, and the money will suddenly start rolling in. This is certain not funny. Yet for the seasoned pro, it�s almost laughable if not silly. As it is, most people aren�t prepared for the impending challenge for building an online business to begin with. The sad part is that many are either given bad information if any at all. This explains the high rate of online business failure. The main problem is the online marketing mistakes that occur daily. Here are five of them.

1. Using Generic Affiliate Pages

This is the first mistake that most in online marketing make. There are a few reasons why so many make such a mistake. However, the main reasons are lack of knowledge, money, and patience. Unless the affiliate page allows affiliates to build their own list, it is essentially useless. Affiliate pages are generally referral builders that help affiliates build a following and make money in simply one program. However, if that program closes its doors, all of those referrals will be immediately eliminated, and the affiliates will lose everything that they�ve worked so hard for unless they have their own lists of email subscribers. With their own lists, they can continue to maintain contact with their email subscribers and continue making money promoting other programs.

2. Not Using a Splash Page
Whether you�re promoting your own program or that of another owner, you need to either have your own capture or squeeze (splash) page. Both pages provide list building capabilities. The difference between the two is that a capture page contains content, graphics, and a sign-up form. A squeeze (splash) has to be clicked on to get to a sign-up form. Both types of pages are good for building your own email list. However, not using either of them is a big marketing mistake that can cost you time, money, and effort.

3. Not Building an eMail List
These days, most online entrepreneurs know about email list building. The question is whether or not they choose to build one. Using referral list builders is only good for marketing one program. However, an email list allows you to market as many programs you want. You may have noticed that whenever there is an online marketing contest, the winners listed are always the same people time and time again. This is because they have a list. They�re no different from you and me except that they took the time to build a list and a relationship with each of their subscribers. Get started building your list and become one of those winners.

4. Not Branding

Branding simply entails getting your name known and building a relationship with others. It doesn�t generally matter what you promote. It doesn�t matter if you often change programs to promote. What does matter is being seen. The more your name and face are seen by visitors, the greater chance you have of being recognized. Overtime, this will get you known, build your credibility, and ultimately increase your sales conversions. However, not branding has the opposite effect. So, begin branding yourself and get seen.

5. Not Planning
Not planning is a huge problem that most people don�t think about. Going about business without a plan is like making a chocolate cake with the ingredients. To begin, you first have to decide how you are going to generate money. Determine what you are going to sell, how you�re going to sell it and why. It doesn't matter what it is. You just need something that is going to generate money. Once you�ve decided, you should then start planning your online business marketing strategy. First, you will need to figure out a free business entry point for visitors. This means giving something to them for free. It can be a free report, an ebook giveaway, an ecourse, etc. The idea is to have something free to give away. Then, you will need to devise a way to get visitors from the entry point to the sign-up point. You do this with your autoresponder and lead capture page. At this point, you would show these prospects how to build their own business, and this is where you begin introducing your products or programs. Your plan is completely laid out. All you would need to do then is execute it. Having a plan is a must. Without it, nothing will happen.

These are mistakes that the majority of online entrepreneurs commit without even realizing it. Many of them continue making the same mistakes until they either correct them or quit. Since quitting should never be your option, what is left is for you to learn the most effective online marketing methods, and then utilize them. In years to come, you will improve in your business building endeavors, and will be able to teach others to duplicate your methods for even greater earnings.
