Lets make no mistake about it. Losing a job is awful. Whether its your fault or not, receiving that pink slip is like getting lost in a foreign city. You have no idea where you are, where youre going, or even how you got into this mess in the first place. It seems like life is moving forward while youre rapidly falling backwards. No one seems to understand what you are going through, or even care. The sky is pitch-black, and youre all alone in the jungle without even a pocket-sized flashlight. You ask yourself, What am I going to do, now? As you ponder your future, you start searching for answers. Yet, the fact remains that you have just lost your job. But, did you know that losing your job is a good thing? Its true. In fact, its just what you needed.

Meet Your New Boss

You begin to look for another job, which also means that you have to now find a new boss. You search high and low for that new boss, but each job application brings with it the painful rejection. However, the problem isnt your lack of job qualifications, or experience. The problem is that you have ignored the one boss that you never even thought about. Do you want to meet your new boss? If so, look in the mirror. In a word, begin to think of yourself as a boss, and not merely as a dependable employee. You are now the creator and owner of You, Inc. Start by gathering reading materials on entrepreneurship. Get online and search business opportunities. Invest some time in learning how to be your own boss, and behave the way bosses behave.

Congratulations, Youre Hired!

Being employed helps you in many ways. First, it gives you something to do. It gives you meaning, and a reason to get up in the morning. It gives us the opportunity to contribute to society, and to improve the quality of the universe. Most importantly, it pays you a recurring wage that is guaranteed as long as the work is plentiful, and your boss likes us enough to keep you there. However, your boss has just given you your walking papers. Congratulations, youre hired! Youve just met your new boss. You are now self-employed. It doesnt matter that youre just starting out, and that youre not yet making any money. What matters is that you are busy doing work that you love. The money will reappear to the degree that you love your work, do it daily, and negotiate a price for your skills and labor.

Nice Pajamas!
So, whats with the pajamas? Did you forget to put on your work clothes before you reported to your new job on your first day of work? No, you didnt. You went to your new job dressed in your pajamas, because you felt like it. As a new business owner (who works from home), you can now arrive at work in your pajamas. The point is that whether you own a work-at-home business or one made up of bricks and mortars, you are no longer restricted to the usual office uniform. You can now dress in whichever wardrobe you please; even is its your pajamas and slippers. No more dress suits. No more company-issued team outfits. No more company-restricted dress codes.

Report to Work Whenever You Wish
Your new boss has allowed you to show up for work whenever you please. You can report to work as early as you wish, or as late as you wish. You can work for twelve hours per day, or for twenty minutes per day. You can take the rest of the day off. You can leave work late or early. And, thats not even the best part. The best part is that you wont get a pink slip, or even get written up by your boss. The idea is that, as a new boss, you call the shots. Why not? Its your job; not someone elses. The best boss is one who works very hard on building her companies, but is very accommodating and fair to her employee. You happen to be both.

Take as Much Time at Lunch as You Want
You can take whatever amount of time for lunch you want. Theres no worry of having to schedule a lunch hour and approve it with your boss. Theres no punching out and then back in again when lunchtime is up. You never have to keep track of the time. Youre not required to return to work at a certain time, or even return all if you choose. Why worry? Whatchu gonna do? Fire yourself? Your lunchtime is yours, so you can take as much time as you want.

Office Romance is Allowed
If youre married, one of the greatest benefits of being your own boss is that (if you decided to) you can hire your spouse. Office romances are generally not allowed in many companies. However, your company is different. Not only do you allow an office romance in your company, but you also encourage it. You and your spouse can work on your new business, and work on your relationship at the same time. You can date at work, and then leave work early to go to a movie if you so desired. You can date openly, and never worry about getting caught and fired. So, youll date whenever you want, and as often as you want. In fact, youll even flaunt your office romance. Whats your boss going to do; fire you?

Conclusion

Make no mistake about it. Coping with job loss sucks. However, losing your job doesnt make you one of the unfortunate unemployed. Instead, you are a unique individual who just happens to now be self-employed. Losing your job is the best thing that has ever happened to you. Believe it, or not!
