Human fulfillment requires an enduring, optimistic, and auto-didactic personality. However, you dont have to be a brave warrior to possess all three. You just have to be willing to face every obstacle with mental fortitude, confidence, and the faculty to teach yourself. Even if youve spent a good part of your life battling low self-esteem and social anxiety, through hard work, you can still become a powerful life force. It is at this point that you will have the strength and ability to deal with whatever problems show up. One such problem that youll know how to handle is the occasional altercation. Its the verbal fight that will test your ability to stay focused, steadfast, and most importantly unscathed. This blog post will provide useful strategies that can help you to effectively deal with verbal confrontations.

Walk Away Immediately
The best and safest way to deal with verbal confrontations is to not deal with them at all. While there are times when youll need to stand up for yourself and fight the verbal battle, walking away as quickly as possible should always be your first option. You dont need to stay and fight if it isnt necessary for you to do so. Its best to keep in mind that by staying for the battle, you will ultimately put yourself at risk of getting your feelings hurt or worst. So, unless there is no way to avoid the confrontation, swallow your pride and walk away.

Make Your Best Argument

If walking away turns out to be ineffective, and you must stay and do battle, then do so with an open mind and be very objective. Argue your case as calmly as you can, and try to avoid getting emotional. Avoid shouting, but do so if it is called for. Never use name calling, unfair accusations, and criticism as ways of arguing your point. Instead, state the facts as you know them through your own observations and experience. Present your best arguments, and leave it at that.

Use Diplomacy

Use skill and tact when dealing with your nemesis during the altercation. Avoid using the altercation as an opportunity to hurt, embarrass, or defeat your nemesis. Instead, make a strong effort to be as diplomatic as possible. If you know that you are wrong, simply admit it and apologize. If you believe that you are right, be clear in stating why. The purpose of using diplomacy is to conclude the altercation on a positive note so that both parties enjoy a win-win outcome.

Collect Witnesses

To settle verbal confrontations, its always helpful to have witnesses who can vouch for you. At least one additional pair of eyes and ears can be enough to put an end to any disagreement. As long as it is a true and honest witness, and not simply an ally choosing sides, both parties can usually walk away with at least a satisfying conclusion. So, if possible, collect witnesses to help you deal with verbal confrontations.

Call Security
If it appears that the altercation is about to become far more volatile, the last thing you want to do is allow it reach that point. Instead this is where you will need to contact security presence or the police authorities. Taking a potentially volatile situation into your own hands is never a good idea, for it can possibly escalate into physical violence. Therefore, use the police to help assuage the situation.

Conclusion

These are a few basic strategies that are likely to help you in addressing verbal confrontations. As stated, the best way is to avoid them all together. However, you may need alternatives, and this post offers a few of them.
