Greek Philosophy From A Very Missed Friend

His name was John and I referred to him as Johnny the Greek. We were the best of friends for more than 50 years and had lunch together regularly for 30 years, John would say that we broke bread together for 3 decades.

Upon his passing we found that he was blessed with hundreds of friends and all would have funny stories to tell.

Often we would discuss financial situations and conditions of the Greeks and the domestic Anglos. John was proud to talk of his heritage and how the Greek immigrants would come to this country with nothing and were proud enough to learn the language and find work to support themselves. John was fast to point out that you never see Greeks on government assistance such as welfare, food stamps or any of the other programs provided and supported by the system.

Our conversations would end talking about the wealth and fame of the Greeks. They own and manage more than 80% of the restaurants, bakeries and food supply establishments. The remainder are contractors, attorneys and other high tech persons of honorable respect.

Johnny The Greeks Explanation:

When there happens to be a great opportunity made public the local Anglos will get excited and go home to discuss it with his wife. Then his wife wants to go talk to their attorney and some of their friends and after a consensus is arrived and they are ready to make the purchase or take the lease they find out that a little Greek man had already bought the opportunity and taken the lease and was making lots of money. Johnny says that while the American Anglo wants to think about the opportunity for a while that when the Greeks see an opportunity they jump right on it and work extra hard to make it a successful venture.

Johnnys explanation is a pretty good assessment of why most of the Greek American population is successful.

The Old Gray Haired Anglos Answer and Comments:

Although there is some truth in the Greek Philosophy there is much that can be added in defense of the American Anglo.

We have become accustomed to being laid back and easy- going. We do try to examine and justify every move, especially the ones that have to do with our finances. Almost all of the Anglos have determination in getting done what we have to do to insure our comfort and our health. When we get older we have to transform our normal actions from running, climbing ladders, working on high roofs and ledges.

Unless we have saved and amassed enough money to live the good life we are learning to earn a living by doing other projects such as writing books, manuscripts and finding ways to market them electronically. Online marketing is without doubt the easiest method of earning without leaving the comfort of your own home, setting your own work hours to accommodate leisure time with your family, yard work and hobbies. If you dont want to write there are hundreds of opportunities marketing products as an affiliate and receive your commissions electronically without ever leaving home.

We Anglos are blessed with ways and means to make a living with minimum stress, fewer problems and lots of fun and enjoyment. I am publishing this to let you know that old dogs can learn new tricks. I am getting older, learning more every day and here is where I found a starting place:

Have a great day and never stop thinking about the future.
