Having been privileged to work with
the biggest and greatest construction superintendents in the Southeast I
observed some very interesting things. One day while in the construction field
office a subcontractor was explaining that he could not start his work until
the cement foundation walls and the cement piers were all in place.
The big burly Superintendent said young man What part
of up north did you come from? I want to
teach you something that you should have known when you were a teenager.
Cement is that dry powdery stuff in a bag that is
the starter for mixing concrete. You mix one part cement to two parts sand and
three parts gravel and then you add water as you stir it to a smooth thick
mixture. This is what you pour into forms and it will be called concrete.
Now dont go around talking about cement walls and
cement floors.
