How To Use a Blog To Market Your Business And Keep People Coming Back

A blog is one of the best Internet marketing techniques. But what can you do with your blog so that people are interested in your company, keep returning to your site, and buy your products? Here are some things you can do with your blog that will ultimately boost profits for you.

1. Talk about sales and deals. Give your customers "inside information". Tell them when they can expect a sale. If they know you give out that kind of information, they will be more likely to subscribe to your blog and recommend it to others. Give them a discount if they share your blog with others. Talk about the products that will be offered in the sale to build interest.

2. Talk about important news regarding your company or your industry. If you are rolling out a new product, do a blog post about that. Talk about how the product is different from anything else already on the market. If you open a new store or a new site, mention it to your blog readers to get support for those endeavors. But you don't have to stop at your company. Talk about related subjects as well. If you sell dog bowls, for example, you might also want to weigh in on what kind of food is best for dogs. This way, you make your blog more interesting to readers, and it also establishes you as a leader in your industry.

3. Have contests and giveaways. You have to come up with creative ways to get people talking about your blog, and contests are a great way to do that. Make sure that the prize is attractive to your readers though. For instance, if your company sells diamond necklaces and that is what your blog focuses on, you would probably choose to avoid giving out gift certificates to Walmart as a contest prize. Put yourself in the shoes of your readers; what would you like to get if you won a contest at your favorite blog?

4. Stay professional at all times. Remember that you blog represents your company, and it's not your personal diary. Keep complaints away from the blog. Don't do a blog post about what you ate for lunch unless you are selling cooking items or food. If you get rude comments on your blog, answer them in a calm, professional tone; don't get into a nasty-worded debate, because other customers will be watching. Remember that any blog has more lurkers than commenters, so even if you don't see people responding, know they are still aware of what is going on.

Keep these tips in mind as you write your blog posts. A blog can be a great way to build relationships with your customers, and to give them a better idea of what your company is about. Make sure that you give them what they need, and they will be more likely to visit your blog and buy from you.
