The Future of Gardening

I remember as a young teenager my Dad taking me to a fellow's home outside of Vancouver, Washington to get some tomatoes. This was my first experience of seeing produce, and flowers, being grown hydroponically. I was very fascinated with the process, which was very rudimentary compared to today's hydroponic growing methods.
Today we have even progressed past hydroponics to what is termed aeroponics. NASA has even done experiments in space with aeroponics, considering how to feed those who are traveling in space for extended periods of time. These methods of growing everything from tomatoes and strawberries, to fodder for animals, is absolutely fascinating, as well as exciting. I believe very strongly that this where the future lies for gardening. You are already seeing companies leasing roof space in the larger cities for growing produce hydroponically. This saves a lot of costs involved in transporting all kinds of produce and fruit to market in the inner cities.
As is always the case, time always tells the story. But I strongly suggest that you keep your eyes on this evolution of gardening, and you may well already be buying some produce at your local Farmers Market that was grown hydroponically.
