Today's blog is a rant!
When I returned from military service over fifty years ago I found a job at a local auto dealership. I was the setup guy for the new car deliveries. An incident occurred there that remains with me till this day.
I had just completed the final set up and inspection on a brand new Buick. The dealer was escorting the proud owner, an elderly lady, out to her new car. As I moved to open the drivers door for her I was roughly pushed aside by a service tech who proceeded to push these ugly belts between the seat and the seat back and then began drilling holes in the rear floor where he screwed down the other end. Needless to say the poor woman was aghast and protested vehemently but to no avail. The dealer weakly explained that he could not deliver the car without them. A wonderful, benevolent government had decreed that, for our own safety mind you,, we would henceforth be required to pay for these "seat belts" whether we wanted them or not. Most drivers of the day chose not to use them.
