Hebrews 12:28-29 (AMP)
28Let us therefore, receiving a kingdom that is firm and stable and cannot be shaken, offer to God pleasing service and acceptable worship, with modesty and pious care and godly fear and awe; 29For our God [is indeed] a consuming fire.
Reflections:
Im reminded of Matt 3:11 where Jesus said to His disciples that they would be baptized with the Holy Spirit and with fire. Lets take a closer look at both verses 11 and verse12:
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Whose fan is in his hand (His winnowing fork), and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
We find in verse 11 that Jesus is the one who baptizes us with the Holy Ghost and with fire. And in verse 12, if well allow it, Hell purge us from the chaff in our lives (chaff is the dry, scaly protective casings of the seeds of cereal grain, or similar fine, dry, scaly plant material such as scaly parts of flowers, or finely chopped straw). And then Hell burn it away. He does so through the presence of the Holy Spirit in us.
After the Day of Pentecost, when the disciples were baptized in the Holy Spirit, they never the same again. Their lives were totally consumed and changed by this process of winnowing and by His insatiable fire. All but one of the original disciples went on to be martyred for Christ.
Doesnt it make spiritual sense to ask our self this question? Will I allow Him to separate the wheat of my heart from the chaff? Will I allow the Holy Spirit to be that consuming fire in my life that consumes the chaff?
What will remain will literally thrill our souls old things will have passed away behold all things will become new

DS responded to yesterday's "Bible Portion for Today" regarding Gideon:
It sure does make me feel better about the trials in my own life. God has an eternal purpose for me and whatever means it's gonna take to conform me into that mighty man of valor, (be careful here) bring it on. I couldn't help but notice some of Gideon's responses in verse 13, the Spirit said to me sound familiar. Why has this happened to me? Where are all the miracles I read about? Why have you forsaken me? The enemy was even working overtime back then with all his lies! stop running, stop hiding, trust and obey, trust and believe, get out of the way and watch what I can do in and through you.
