1 Do not boast about tomorrow,
For you do not know what a day may bring forth.
Reflections:
What if you received news from your doctor that you were going to die soon? What would we do? Perhaps wed do like King Hezekiah, who when he got the news of his imminent death, from Isaiah the prophet, spent his time weeping before the Lord; reminding Him how good hed been (2 Kings 20:1-7). Well, would you believe that God heard his cry, had mercy on him and extended his life fifteen years? Thats pretty amazing!
I remember when my father, who was forty eight years old, had a massive heart attack. Prior to this I had been witnessing Christ to him, but he wasnt interested. Well, when I walked into his hospital room, right after his heart attack, my first words were, as we looked at one another were, are you ready now? He nodded yes, and I was able to lead him to the Lord right then and there. Praise God!
Somewhere during those not knowing whether dad was going to live or die hours I asked God to let my father live. At that moment I was reminded of Hezekiahs prayer, and I asked God to let dad live another fifteen years. Well, he survived that heart attack, and many more over the years that followed; each subsequent one causing more and more damage to his heart until one day he finally passed.
I dont know how much later it was when I had the presence of mind to remember my little prayer; but when I counted the years, would you believe, fifteen years had passed. I remember the look on my mothers face when I told her of my prayer. She could only say, with a broken heart, Why didnt you ask for more?
What can we learn from this? If you know youre going to die, dont just throw in the towel. Ask God for fifteen more years -- what do you have to lose? He did it for Hezekiah, and for my dad; perhaps Hell do it for you too
