John 8:36 (KJV)
36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Reflections:
If youve ever been set free from a serious addictive behavior that had held you in bondage for a long season, you know the sincere joy and thankfulness you felt. You gave Jesus all the glory, and your deliverance from bondage became your constant testimony and boast in the Lord.
But then after time had passed (months, even years) of freedom something devastating happened. Out of seemingly nowhere we fell head-long right back into the clutches of that same old destructive sin pattern, only this time the pit was deeper, and darker. How could this happen we ask?
Well sure, the devils behind it, but we didnt even see him coming. We got a little slack here, a little compromising with the world there, and before we knew it WHAM! The trap went off and we were snared!
The worst part of this dilemma is that of the unbearable guilt and shame that rises up within us. Now what? How can we ever find our way back to where we truly feel forgiven and free again?
Its true that If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9), but how do we forgive ourselves? When we first got saved sin seemed to simply melt away because of Jesus unbelievable sacrifice that we were able to freely receive.
But now its somehow feels different it doesnt seem that simple anymore. But it is beloved, it is! Its just the same as it always was. That initial process of salvation provided us with a divine intersection where our hearts and the Holy Spirit first kissed. We fell in love with the Savior, and that changed everything.
Whats needed is another divine intersection, but how can we get there? Well, for one thing true repentance (i.e. Psalm 51) is an absolutely essential ingredient. Next we need a spiritual point of contact; and finally that Spirit kiss that re-ignites our first love.
Im sure there are many roads back and perhaps some of you will be willing to share some. I believe one answer can be found in Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Actually I personally cant think of a more powerful divine intersection where we can re-surrender to water baptism, repent, enter a watery grave of death to self again, and emerge once again with that Spirit kiss; more than a conqueror in Christ!
Its not over, beloved, just because we fell so hard. Its simply requires a new grace-beginning in Christ!
