Matthew 10:28-31 (NKJV)
28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Fathers will. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Reflections:
What the sparrow teaches us is that if God is so concerned about it (the little sparrow), and knows whenever one falls to the ground, we can be assured that God cares for us even more.
And because God cares for us and loves us there is nothing to fear, for Gods perfect love cast out all fear (1 John 4:18). Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Fathers good pleasure to give you the kingdom (Lk 12:323).
But not to fear requires faith in the Word of God. So now we must honestly ask ourselves if we truly believe that the Bible is inspired and true all the way through from Geneses to Revelation. If we answer yes, and we then continue to live in fear, fear then becomes a clear lack of trust in God a sin!
If we hope to grow in Christ we must then call this spade a spade. Were certainly not fooling God. Fact is the only one were fooling is ourselves.
As always true repentance (a sincere desire to change) and an invitation to the Holy Spirit to do what only He can do is whats required. Its the love of God that were after, for once we have that fear automatically leaves, and the love of God is shed abroad in our heart by the Holy Spirit (Rom 5:5).
