Amos 8:11-12 (KJV)
11Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: 12And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.
Reflections:
These words of spiritual famine were spoken by the prophet Amos to backslidden Israel in about 787 B.C., but are just as pertinent today. Im sadly reminded of these verses in Romans 1:27-32:
And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
According to the dictionary the word reprobate is a very scary word and means, Morally unprincipled; shameless. Rejected by God and without hope of salvation. We are living in the midst of such a generation as this. We, like Abrahams nephew Lot, are being vexed in our souls, because we are surrounded by immoral filth on every side.
For example, anyone who is ignorant enough to believe that they can play with Hollywoods Oscar winning, R-rated fire, and not get burned is sadly mistaken. We become spiritually desensitized by what we take in, like it or not.
No matter how much we attempt to justify being party with the world, it is not OK -- no matter what flavor it comes in! Make no mistake about it, whatsoever we sow, we will also reap. A word to the wise is sufficient
