36 And He said, Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.
Reflections:
A true believer has no problem at all in understanding that all things are possible for God. The Holy Spirit has written this indelibly upon our hearts.
Jesus surely knew this. He was living proof of it. But still, the agony of the moment caused Him to cry out, Take this cup from me! There must be some other way, Father. The answer came back, no, this is the only way (Im paraphrasing of course). Finally Jesus knew what had to be done and surrendered to what he knew would be his death on a morbid Roman cross.
How many times have we found ourselves at a similar place, facing a seeming insurmountable situation in our lives? We cry out, Father, all things are possible for you. Take this cup from me! And alas, the same answer that Jesus received comes to us and God says, No my child, do it My way trust Me.
Jesus taught us by example to surrender to whatever it is that lies ahead. We must relinquish our fear and anxiety and place it safely into the palm of Gods perfect plan and rest secure in His love for the outcome.
We too, as Jesus did, will soon come to realize how right we were to trust, and how perfectly flawless the Fathers plan for us really was What an amazing and mighty God we serve!
