7And He rescued righteous Lot, greatly worn out and distressed by the wanton ways of the ungodly and lawless--8For that just man, living [there] among them, tortured his righteous soul every day with what he saw and heard of [their] unlawful and wicked deeds--9Now if [all these things are true, then be sure] the Lord knows how to rescue the godly out of temptations and trials, and how to keep the ungodly under chastisement until the day of judgment and doom,
Reflections:
There are sojourners (like Abraham) who are walking the highway of holiness by faith, and there are settlers, like lukewarm Lot, who settled into Sodom and Gomorrah wanting to live the good life. It turned out it wasnt such a good life after all
And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein. No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up there on, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there: And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away (Isa 35:8-10).
The question we must ask ourselves is: Am I a sojourner or am I a settler?Am I heading toward the celestial city of God, or am I drawn to, and held captive by, the pleasures of this world?
If the latter is our condition its not too late, for the Lord knows how to rescue the godly out of temptations Once again; its a choice we each must make
