18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed[a] in heaven.
Reflections:
Without keys there are many, many things we are not able to access. We, and others, lock things up that are considered valuable to us. Most folks lock their cars in their driveway; and their homes when they go out.
But nothing surpasses the value of the kingdom of heaven and its treasures. Only those to whom Jesus has given the keys to it can enter. Nowadays we typically think of a key as a metal object with an area to hold onto on one end and on the other end a series of complex shapes. We now have digital keys on our cars that consist of buttons or touch pad switches.
If we think about the keys to the kingdom of heaven, we soon begin realize that they are nothing like our descriptions above. Theyre not made of metal with complex shapes, but rather a powerful (once visible, now invisible) substance. Thats right; its the blood of Jesus Christ t, Savior and Lord of all heaven and earth. What He opens no one shuts, and what He shuts no one opens (Rev 3:7).
He has given us these keys to the kingdom of Heaven via salvation through his shed blood. Not only do these keys allow us access to heaven, they will unlock any wicked lock on earth and set the captive free from emotional, physical and spiritual bondages. How do we use the keys? All we have to do is apply that mustard seed sized faith hes given to all who believe and we can open any door, God desires opened, in Jesus name !
He first gave these keys to Peter to jump-start the church, but clearly they have been handed down to all blood-bought believers. As we are led about by the Holy Spirit we will know just how to use them to set the captives free
