Romans 13:12-14 (ESV)
12 The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
Reflections:
To make no provision for the flesh means to stop setting your flesh up to fail. For instance if we were to choose to go to an R-rated movie and the rating was for nudity, your making provision for the flesh; your setting yourself up to fail through lust.
A mutually attracted boy and girl, or for that matter, man and woman who spend time alone in a house are making provision for the flesh. It wont be long before sin surfaces. For the true Christian this sexual failure becomes spiritually devastating.
you can be sure your sin will find you out (Num 32:23b). Our sin distances us from God, and sometimes the road back is not without its hard lessons. God doesnt stop loving us; He starts disciplining us. And all because we made provision for the flesh.
Is it really all worth the price? Answer = absolutely no! But if we dont, by an act of choice, put on the Lord Jesus Christ we will continue to set ourselves up, and we will continue to fail. We must choose to cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.
In choosing to walk properly we will definitely need the help of the Holy Spirit. We simply cannot change ourselves, but the Holy Spirit will change us, from the inside out, if we totally depend on him to do so. Any Christian, whos worth his or her salt, longs for holiness and knows that they must not make provision for the flesh
