Proverbs 24:30-32 (AMP)
30I went by the field of the lazy man, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; 31And, behold, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles were covering its face, and its stone wall was broken down. 32Then I beheld and considered it well; I looked and received instruction.
22As for what was sown among thorns, this is he who hears the Word, but the cares of the world and the pleasure and delight and glamour and deceitfulness of riches choke and suffocate the Word, and it yields no fruit.
Reflections:
Weve all heard that expression Thats a thorn in my side. Well, to the Christian these thorns are the attractive, all so subtle, fleeting pleasures of the world, the flesh and the devil.
Many who sincerely receive Jesus as Savior and Lord, begin well, but then theres that T.V. sitcom that I like so much; it just cracks me up! And theres the old crowd who get together to just have fun. I know that some of them will be doing drugs and drinking, but that doesnt mean I have to. I just enjoy being around them. I really love the music they listen to
And then theres the Internet. Couple that with some idle time and were in danger of being sucked right into the devils workshop. Oh, Ill just take a peek; a little peek cant hurt and all of a sudden were in over our head and we dont want to get out. Next comes the guilt which makes us so ashamed we feel we can no longer face God.
Before we know it our spiritual wall has been breached and broken down and were so surrounded by thorns. Theres seems no way out. But there certainly is and that way out is to cry out to God with all our heart for His mercy and grace. He is always faithful to cleanse sins stain and to forgive.
If were wise, once were delivered from sins grasp, we will choose to place our roots deep in the good, rich, well-watered fertile soil of God; safely enjoying the pleasures of His wonderful garden of life and never look back!
