1 Chronicles 11:22 (NKJV)
22 Benaiah was the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man from Kabzeel, who had done many deeds. He had killed two lion-like heroes of Moab. He also had gone down and killed a lion in the midst of a pit on a snowy day.
Reflections:
Who was this amazing man? Benaiah was a mighty warrior and one of King Davids inner circle of trusted men. He was in charge of the Cherethites and the Pelethites, a part of Davids army. He was certainly not someone we would want to prod or provoke.
We recall Samson and how he killed a young lion with his bare hands (Judges 14:5-6). He was endowed with such supernatural strength thats its not too hard to believe. But this Benaiahs prowess is truly outstanding. Were not told whether or not he had a spear, but to slay a lion under any circumstance is quite a feat.
Lets pray that we, like Benaiah, would be loyal to our King Jesus, as Benaiah was to King David. And that in like manner, in the name and authority of our Lord Jesus, we too might do mighty and outstanding exploits for the glory of God.
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Lk 10:19).
