Exodus 29:20 (KJV)
20Then shalt thou kill the ram, and take of his blood, and put it uponthe tip of the right ear of Aaron, and upon the tip of the right ear of his sons, and upon the thumb of their right hand, and upon the great toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about.
Reflections:
Our verse is part of the ceremony for consecrating Aaron and his sons for the priesthood at the tabernacle in the wilderness. (Ex 29:29; Lev 8:23-24; Lev14:14,17,25,28). Moses officiated.
I was thinking about the spiritual significance of the thumb and so I did a Bible search. This verse, and six other verses just like it, spoke of anointing the right thumb with blood and/or oil. Not only was the thumb anointed, but the tip of the right ear and the big toe of the right foot.
 Why the right side? When the Old Testament patriarchs pronounced a blessing on the son of their choice (usually the firstborn) they always used their right hand. In that Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father we can see a symbolic pattern for imparted blessing running throughout the bible.
 Why the tip of the ear? The tip is the highest point of the ear and speaks of hearing from above and taking in the Law of God.
 Why the right thumb? The thumb speaks of strength with God. Without the thumb our power is greatly diminished, and without spiritual power we are helpless before our enemy.
 Why the big toe? This speaks of stability and balance in the things of God.
In the New Testament we are called a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light (1 Pet 2:9);
We too as true born-again believers have been consecrated by the blood of the New Covenant in Jesus blood, and by the anointing of the Holy Spirit (oil). This is so that we too, like a spiritual priesthood, can hear from heaven, be strong in the Lord (and having put on the full armor) be able to stand (Eph 6:10-18)!
