4And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
Reflections:
Yesterday was Thanksgiving where everything seemed to focus on the Turkey and that wonderful turkey soup that would surely follow theresfter. Hopefully we stopped and thought for a moment about how thankful we are for the grace of God and for all His bountiful provision throughout the year.
Now, just imagine, for a moment, a true vegetarian at Thanksgiving. What would they have eaten that truly represented the day? It seems he or she would have to settle for the trimmings -- the mashed potatoes, string beans, squash and whatever else might be on the table but not the turkey, nor that delicious stuffing.
If our vegetarian was really brave they might have prepared a TOFU turkey. Having tasted one in the past, I can personally testify that it is most certainly a poor substitute for the real thing! Perhaps we can compare this to somebody eating chopped liver while everyone else feasts on filet mignon.
Many Christians are like our vegetarian friend who have chosen to settle for something less than the main course. Many have become satisfied with just the trimmings: the beautiful church setting, the talented music ministry, the special lighting and the full-service worship center with magnificent sanctuary.
I need to be bold here and say that this is all TOFU turkey when compared to what is contained in the simplicity of the power of the gospel. The main course should be the demonstration of the Spirit and of power, and we should hunger and thirst after the main course; the transforming power of the Holy Spirit! The very power that raised Christ from the dead! The very same Holy Spirit that has been given to each and every one of us by Christ to lead, teach, guide, and empower the church; to do even greater works than the Savior himself; This should be the main course!
And so, many like our vegetarian friend, settle for the trimmings. But does this really satisfy? is this really what our hearts are crying out for ? ...

PS
If Ive offended any literal vegetarians, dont be Im one! (that's why I tried the TOFU Turkey one year).
