Proverbs 27:1 (KJV)

27 Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

Reflections:

I remember when I was a little boy, maybe eight or nine, my dad took me fishing with the canoe. He even had a small outboard gas motor that he attached to the side of the canoe.

We arrived at a secluded place along the Ipswich River called Kings Pool in Middleton, Massachusetts. After putting on his wading boots dad loaded all our fishing gear in the canoe. He had me stand on the shore until he started the motor. Brumm. Brumm, the motor sputtered, but wouldnt start.

After a few unsuccessful tries he decided to rotate the motor 90 degrees for more leverage not realizing that the propeller was now facing in the wrong direction. He gave one strong pull on the starter cord and the motor instantly started. When it did the canoe rolled right over casting my dad and all our gear into the water.

He naturally went under the water, but didnt come up. I knew my dad was a good swimmer, but he was nowhere in sight. I remember standing at the edge of that river-pool staring at the water helplessly not knowing what to do. There was no one around to help, as we were in a very remote place.

It seemed like an eternity went by and I remember I was just about to panic when all of a sudden the river seemed to throw open its mouth as he emerged alive and well!

What I didnt know was that his waders had filled up with water. He was struggling for his life under water attempting to free himself from waders which had become water-filled anchors.

After he had recovered adequately he dove in and retrieved our fishing gear and we put it all in the car, lashed the canoe on top and went home. My father gave the canoe and motor away and never went fishing again, and Ive never forgotten those awful moments in which I almost lost my dad.

There are times in life when bad things happen and all we can do is stand helplessly by. I wasnt a Christian then, but I believe Gods grace was there for us that day and my dad lived. For others the outcome to lifes unpredictable moments hasnt end up as well.

It is then that Gods grace, in the form of comfort, takes us through the fire of loss. Healing may not happen right away, but if we place our trust in Him the pain of loss will be swallowed up in victory, and yes we will be able to face new tomorrows with peace and joy in the Holy Spirit

Peter responded to yesterday's "Bible Portion for Today" regarding the Marriage Supper of the Lamb:

This scripture is really amazing. Jesus Himself will serve us.

"Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them (Luke 12:37)."
