3To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
Reflections:
This beautifully lavish verse speaks of a great exchange between God and man where God offers beauty, joy and a garment of praise in exchange for ashes, mourning and a spirit of heaviness freely. This is an Old Testament prophetic picture of Gods desire for Israel. Being prophetic it propels itself to the future born-again generations to whom salvation has been freely given by our loving heavenly Father through Jesus Christ his supernal Son.
Oh, if the world only knew that all the answers to their deepest dilemmas are found in Christ! Alas, this is the task that has been set before us: to bring healing to the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised (Lk 4:19). The question is, are we up to the task?
Jesus said, Ye (we) are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Mt 5:14-16).
Gods desire is that we would boldly pour out this treasure in our earthen vessel to others. Boldly here is not to be confused with being legalistic, overbearing, pushy or obnoxious. Boldly means: brave; showing a readiness to take risks or face danger; daring; fearless. How about boldly speaking the truth in love?
The world could sure use a God given life of beauty, joy and a garment of praise in exchange for its ashes, mourning and their spirit of heaviness. If we sense that our soul-winning flame can barely be seen, perhaps its time to throw off the bushel thats hiding our light and boldly take a chance once again! Thank God for the one who boldly shared Christ with us. Should we do any less for others
