16Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves; be wary and wise as serpents, and be innocent (harmless, guileless, and without falsity) as doves.
Reflections:
When Jesus walked earths troubled sod he confronted all types of people: The religious Pharisees, tax collectors, Roman soldiers, the simple, the intellectuals, the harlots, the demoniacs and most probably the sexually perverse. Although he dealt differently with each one he came in contact with, His godly integrity always remained the same. He never ever compromised, no not even for a split second!
The question for us is how do we witness to all the different types of folks God puts in our path and still maintain our integrity, and not compromise ourselves? Our society is a perverse and wicked one and the sad part of it is that it doesnt even know it. Most people honestly believe that they are good people.
We that truly know Christ clearly understand sin and understand that there are none righteous, not even one! So whats the answer? How do we reach all these different types of folks for Christ? God has, once again, made the answer really quite simple.
The very first thing is that we need to stay at rest in God (dont get fearful or anxious). Next dont look down on peoples sin. We all emerged from the cesspool of sin in one form or another. Sin doesnt shock God and it shouldnt shock us. Most importantly we must be led by the Holy Spirit. We mustnt be afraid to love and serve folks freely with Christs love for fear of our love being misunderstood by those we minister to. If we do it right there will be no mistaking whose love it is that is ministering to them.
If we remain at rest, love with Christs love and compassion, and listen to the Holy Spirits instructions, the gospel will come forth clearly and naturally as it ought to. Its also wise to remember that one sows, another waters, BUT IT IS GOD WHO GIVES THE INCREASE! We dont have to do it all; just rest in it and let our part flow ...
