Reflections:
Lets face it! Our best attempt at holiness carries about as much righteousness as filthy rags (Isa 64:6) when compared to a holy God. Because of the new birth we share in the blessing of Christs imputed (given-to-us) righteousness (Rom 4:23-25).
As Christians we carry around so much past trash thats its no wonder we dont feel like were gaining any significant spiritual ground. Most of us dont even know were carrying this stuff around! We figure, it is what it is, and we learn to live with it, even though we dont like ourselves when we do what we do.
Did you ever notice that when confronted by a particular negative situation, you act, pretty much, the same every time. As an example, were driving down the street and someone tears out in front of us, or someone is driving so slow we just simply cannot bear it. What comes out of our mouth in situations like this show us whats inside our wicked old-nature heart. It sneaks right past our new nature and out our lips. Whats worse we do this in relationships especially those closest to us that we love; the ones we really shouldnt hurt at all!
Lets call these negative soul triggers. When presented with the appropriate stimulus they instantly fire off destructively. There is a solution to all this. Its called the renewing of our minds (Rom 12:2; Eph 4:23) and its accomplished through the workings of the Holy Spirit within us.
Heres what to do:
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal these negative hidden triggers (He will). Write them all down.
Repent of them as thoroughly as possible (take your time).
Sincerely ask the Holy Spirit to re-wire you (renew your mind) so that when the same stimulus occurs again you respond from your new-spirit-man.
This is still a trigger, but its been converted (renewed) into a godly Trigger. Now it fires from a godly frame of reference, i.e. what would Jesus do? If you dont think this works just try it
