Numbers 13:25-31 (New King James Version)
25 And they returned from spying out the land after forty days
28 Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land arestrong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak (giants) there
30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.
31 But the men who had gone up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people, for they arestronger than we.
Reflections:
The Israelites were told by God to enter the Promised Land; that it was theirs to occupy and that He would go before them and assure them victory.
Having spied out the land the Israelites became fearful; responding to what they saw instead of trusting in Gods directive. They walked by sight and not by faith.
That entire generation lost out on the promise of God because of their unbelief. Only Joshua and Caleb came to enter into the Promised Land after having to wait another forty years; and all because of unbelief.
