7And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 8(For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) 9The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
Reflections:
The ultimate code of morality is the Ten Commandments, which man simply could not live up to. And so God sent forth His only begotten Son to die for the sins of the world. In the process Christ modeled the ultimate in morality for all mankind.
If we were to ask anyone who is not born-again if they were a good moral person, most would say that, Yes, Im a good person. They would base this on the morality of the norms and standards of the culture in which they live.
However, a social morality apart from the authority of Christ can only end in anarchy. This is where we find our world today. Adultery, fornication, homosexuality, those who kill babies for convenience sake, terrorists and the like -- all self-justified in doing so using their own personal code of morality.
In the midst of all this we find professing Christians being desensitized to sin just like Lot was in Sodom. We must not allow the world to disconnect us from the moral authority of Christ in our lives. We as Christians are to be set apart to boldly model Christs morality to this wicked and perverse generation and to call sin exactly what it is SIN!
