5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Reflections:
Why is it that, in many marriages, one professing Christian has an all-consuming faith while the other seems to stand passively by? Both reference the same book (Bible), fellowship with the same believers, hear the same testimonies and Word preached, and yet one is on fire for God and the other remains passive � even though they both profess the same experience. Could this thought of casting down of imaginations have something to do with it?
Imagination means: To set up (or allow someone to set up) a mental image or notion in our thinking that becomes our religious frame of reference. This is the devils specialty and is how he veers the minds of men off course so they never reach their intended destination and potential. He does this through the dos and don�ts of religious thinking.
The Word of God and the Holy Spirit are given to us so that we don�t run amuck in our imaginations. They are designed to �cut through� the red tape of imagination that has us bound to a godless, passionless tradition and allows us to break free to the joy of the Savior. The solution to this imagination dysfunction is a SINCERE evaluation of this verse:
Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. We must test ourselves! �Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?�unless indeed you are disqualified (2 Cor 13:5).� The Holy Spirit will help us do this if we ask.
We must not settle for a mere form of godliness � an imitation (imagination) that denies us of the passion of a true and vital relationship in Christ. If we find that this is the case we must have the courage to cast down these false imaginations, no matter how entrenched they might be, and bring them into the obedience of Christ!
