6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Reflections:
Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Easier said than done, huh? Why is it that you see the same Christians twenty years later and theyre still dealing with the exact same problems they were dealing with twenty years earlier? Well, one things for sure its not that the Bibles in error or that God hasnt done his part. Now that only leaves us doesnt it?
A lot of folks really dont like when someone draws that conclusion. It makes them downright angry. Unfortunately, its the truth. Lets take a look:
as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust (2 Pet 1:3-4). So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you (Lk 11:9).
If God has provided everything we need to have victory in our lives, then whats wrong? Our verse today gives us a few pointers:
Our pride gets in the way (Prov 16:18) (1 John 2:16).
We wont truly submit to God because our motive is wrong in that it is self-serving (my kingdom not Gods) (James 4:2-4).
Were not truly willing, or were afraid, to cleanse our hands, or to purify our heart by exposing all to the light (Jas 5:16).
Were double-minded and therefore unstable (Jas 1:6-8) (Rev 3:16).
Lets choose to deal with these root issues that have hindered our spiritual lives by allowing God to cleanse and purify our hearts Then we will resist the devil and he will flee from us
